Stilling Basin and walk for Mushrooms - 5/23/11

We went up to the stilling basin - a part of the Oahe Dam where they release more water when necessary than what they can put though the main powerhouse part of the dam which generates electricity.  This day the water flow was at about 65,000 cubic feet per second.  At this time we did not know the upcoming announcement of what was going to happen a few days later - more posts to follow about Pierre/Ft. Pierre flooding.  We also took walk to find mushrooms and we found about 6!

Area of stilling basin where you can usually park.

I don't know why, but when you rotate the video, the quality isn't as good.  But here is a video of Hadley doing ABC's...

This day (5/25/11) we drove around to see some of the start of the flooding and stopped at the park.  In a matter of two days, it was announced that they were going to have to open the stilling basin gates even higher which in turn might cause some flooding in Pierre/Ft. Pierre.  Currently the gates are opened to 85,000 cfs, more to follow in another post.

Walk at Farm Island - 5/16/11

After work we decided to go to Farm Island to take a walk and look for morel mushrooms.  We didn't find any mushrooms but we did have a nice walk and Hadley enjoyed herself.

Hadley's Birthday - opening presents and cake! - 5/14/11

When Geno's Grandpa and Uncle Kent arrived, Hadley opened her presents and played with them and we also ate dinner that we picked up from Pizza Ranch.  We also got some group photos taken.
